Avi Oster, media-man and principle of Oster Media has recently collaborated with legendary fashion designer Catherine Fulmer to throw Southern Crawl: an evening of fashion and music, at the Bowery Poetry Club, a New York City space home to numerous well-known and rising-star artists. The evening showcased the talent of three particular artists: Catherine Fulmer’s 2011 Fall Fashion line, New York DJ Paul Sevigny, and the soul-sounding music of Marla Joy.

It was no surprise that Avi Oster would be involved in such an event. Oster is known throughout fashion, media, and trend circles in New York as a leading figure for generating networking events and cross-field cooperation. He is also an active participant in the fashion industry, granting many starting artist support and involving himself in the industry platform Nolcha Fashion Week. He is also close friends and a collaborator with Stephen Seo, exclusive designer for the cast members of HBO’s Entourage.

However, the focus of the evening remained on Fulmer, who drew inspiration for her line from her travels in America’s south. This influence, an “edgy neo-south rocker chic,” brought a particular edge to her trademark style. Fulmer stated to the press, “From start to finish, this collection has had my heart, soul and love. I’m obsessed with the burnt orange, black corduroy velveteen, washed silks and the forest green — these colors remind me of the vibe, warmth, and music of the South… The all-black, sad look is something I’m totally over. I want to show beauty and grace, and that’s why my linings represent bright energy, love and joy — they all come from inside.”
